Do you know that feeling? There's this one topic you've always wanted to talk about at university, but there's never a seminar on it? Offer it yourself!
>> Current and past autonomous tutorials
Every year, the Student Council awards a certain number of autonomous tutorials. These are seminars led by students on a topic of their choice. The tutorials are officially included in the course catalog and the tutors are paid for their work. The department provides the rooms. The form the tutorial takes is up to the tutors: block seminar, excursion, workshop, or classic seminar – anything is possible. In many degree programs, participants and tutors receive CP for participating in or leading the event.
Are you interested? Then apply now for the next semester!
1. First, fill out the application form for autonomous tutorials (click here). You can find a filled out exemplary form here.
2. Attach a preliminary schedule for your tutorial to your application so that we can get a better idea of how you envision the tutorial will proceed. The schedule may, of course, evolve during the tutorial. In fact, you should be open to suggestions from participants when implementing the tutorial.
3. Please also include a preliminary list of literature or sources so that we can get an impression of the subject matter on which your tutorial will be based. The selection of literature/sources/materials used may of course change during the course of the tutorial and should be open to suggestions from participants. Here is an example.
Please send us these three documents with a short, informal application to the following email address: fachschaft10@dlist.server.uni-frankfurt.de. Your application will be forwarded anonymously to our election committee.
are always two Sundays before the start of the lecture-free period for the coming semester. For the winter semester 2025/26, this is February 1, 2026.
All students enrolled in Department 10 are eligible to apply, regardless of their semester. If you have already held an autonomous tutorial, this is not a criterion for exclusion. You may also apply with several people to lead a tutorial, but only one person will be officially hired.
For the duration of the tutorial, you will always receive a contract from the dean's office for 20 hours per month (5 hours per week). During the lecture period, you are only allowed to work a total of 20 hours per week as a full-time student, otherwise you risk being expelled. So if you have other part-time jobs, please check first whether working as a tutor is even possible for you.
The student council puts together a selection committee consisting of students from as many departments as possible so that applications can be assessed competently and independently.
Each application is read anonymously by two committee members, one from outside the subject area and (if possible) one from the degree program, independently of each other and evaluated according to defined criteria.
Once all applications have been evaluated in this way, the committee reconvenes and decides jointly which tutorials will be selected. In the event of differing assessments within the two-person teams or shared uncertainties, all committee members read the relevant applications and vote on them together in the following week. Once the selection committee has reached a decision, it presents its selection to the student council.
It is important to us that there is a clear connection to Department 10 and the degree programs it offers. The concept should be well thought out and coherent, as should the proposed literature and source list. We also attach importance to the fact that the autonomous tutorial you propose adds something to the teaching offered by our department.

We look forward to receiving your application!
